Perennial Favorites is a unique plant nursery located near Rye, Colorado, in the beautiful Greenhorn Valley of the Wet Mountains. The nursery is open to the public from May through July, and again in September for our fall sale. Check out the schedule page for exact dates and times.
We have a huge selection of perennials, vegetables, annuals, and herbs. We have a great selection of native shrubs and wildflowers, too. Fruit trees are becoming one of our favorite crops, and this year we have two varieties of apricots to add to our apple and peach selections. Our demonstration gardens showcase the variety and selection of plants that we grow, and help you see how these plants will look in your own gardens.
Those of you who know us well, know that in the over 20 years of our nursery’s existence we’ve never used chemical herbicides or pesticides here. We were organic before organic gardening was cool! Despite our organic practices, we cannot label our plants organic because we are not certified organic by the federal government. There are two reasons we decided not to get certified. The main reason is the cost—not just the big outlay of money for the certification, but all the costs in the paperwork; keeping track of everything for the USDA takes lots of time and money. We're a small business with only a few part time employees. The second reason is fertilizer. We have great organic fertilizers that we love and use, but in midsummer, when the bears are hungry, we switch to Miracle-Gro. We can’t use organic fertilizers then because the bears love them. We continue to search for a solution to this problem.
Our goal is to continue to grow our plants in the very safest manner possible for you, for all the birds and wildlife, and for all the generations of humans and animals to come.
