Plant Select for 2009: Lavender Ice

Lavender Ice

This unusual colored delosperma was discovered here at Perennial Favorites nursery in Rye, Colorado. We’re honored to have it chosen to be part of the Plant Select program.

From the first moment we saw it blooming we knew it was a find. We stashed the plant in a greenhouse and thought about it.   We referred to it as that lavender ice plant, but we weren’t really sure about the color. Lavender? Pink? Mauve?  We used crayons to compare the colors, and asked our customers to vote. The majority voted for lavender. Reta Zane was working here that year, and her uncle was very fond of all the different colors of delospermas.  Uncle Joe would come to the nursery and jump out of his truck shouting “ICE!  I need more ice,” That made us laugh, and with his voice in mind it became Lavender Ice.
